Dear Sir:

My cousin, Mrs. Hal Sausser, of Los Angles, in writing to me on February 28 enclosed your letter to her of December 31 in which you explained your effort to get to Chicago to enter the Central Y.M.C.A. College here, and the difficulties you had had. Your problem in a word as I understand it, is to be sure that you will have a job in Chicago when you arrive.

There is a placement Bureau at the Central Y.M.C.A. college here, the head of which is Mrs. Irene Kline. I have discussed your case with that office, and I am informed that if you will write directly to Mrs. Kline there is little doubt that you can be sure of a job well in advance of the next term of that college, which will be in June. You could not enter the college in the middle of the present term, anyway, I was told. I would suggest therefore that you write to Mrs. Kline, giving her such information about yourself as would help her in deciding what kind of a job would be suitable. Her office will wish to know whether you will want a full-time or a part-time job and will also want as much information as possible about your qualifications for particular work, so as to know what to look for. The Central "Y" college has five American students of Japanese ancestry enrolled there now. Three of them have jobs within the college itself. I believe you will find Mrs. Kline's office very helpful.

There is one other piece of information that may be equally helpful to you. There is in Chicago an American dentist of Japanese ancestry, Dr. I. Tashiro, of 841 E. 63rd Street, who takes a strong personal interest in cases like yours and who had been helpful in placing a number of students in jobs. I have discusses the matter with him and he says without qualification that he can definitely assure you of a job, if you will get in touch with him. He says that he is in touch with more jobs than hi is with men to fill them, and that he will be glad to help you in any way that he can. I think it would be appropriate for you to write to him, as well

as to Miss Kline. Probably you should give him also as much information as possible about your qualifications for particular work.

The University of Chicago maintains an organization known as "International House", where students of all nationalities and ancestries live. It is in charge of a Mr. Robetta, and it was he who put me in touch with Dr. Tashiro. By an odd coincidence, it developed that Dr. Tashiro happens to be the personal dentist for Miss Kline herself, and also for Dean Kramer, of the Central "Y" college. If you to Chicago, it might be well for you to drop in on Mr. Robetta and get acquainted, as he also had done considerable placement work and might be able to help you make a change from one job to another should you desire to do so.
