Hi Joe!

Thanks for the letter. We just received it yesterday. We are are well and think its wonderful to hear that you feeling better.

By this time we suppose you are settled in your new home. How do you like it?

Today the weather is beautiful and its just like summer. Since spring is here the leaves are growing with the beautiful shade of green. The weather of yesterday was also good. Every day the sun begins to rise around 6:30 and so nowadays I'm always the first to get up (thrill thrill). Once I went to breakfast so early that there were only old bachelors eating. Surprising isn't it.

Gee whiz, 3 lbs of string beans for $1.10, boy what a price. I never though it could be that high. Food is getting sort of short here and they don't try to give you more then you need. We have been using butter everday so I guess it isnt bad at all. (Nucoa.)

Towru is working now and this is what his job is. A surveyor but I think thats better than nothing. Last time he went to work at the soldiers camp & happened to drop in at the canteen. Boy he bought candy & gum but just a wee bit of it. What I

tasted was good & boy it really was delicious. I dont care for the candy as much as gum.

Tomorrow the surveyors are going to the mountains and I think Towru's pretty lucky to go there. Right now I'm in study hall & its so boring that I had to do something. At least write to you. Dike sent his Mom some penny suckers & she happened to give us some and it really was good. Then we shared it with the Odaharas.

Papa's still working up at the same place. I hope you got his letter.

Grace Takahashi is supposed to have left for the outside. I forgot where she said she was going but any going out of camp. Pretty soon there won't be any teachers left so the kids in the senior classes at sunday school will graduate and be teachers.

Mama is still working on Towru's letterman sweater. She's going to be finished as soon as the yarn comes. Just two sleeves and thats all. Boy he can hardly wait. Couple of days ago some white boy came to see Towru and said that they miss him and they have a showcase with Towrus picture. (He really brags) (Towru).

My new Social Living teacher is swell. She came from Mississippi. Last Saturday she went to Los Angeles. First thing is that she wanted to go to Hollywood and visit the studio so she went there and had her friend excort her because she worked there after she went to Beverly hills and said thats the first time in her life that she had ever seen such beautiful homes. Many of the people told her that all the homes didn't look half as beautiful as they did because the Japanese gardeners had left. She says that the people are saying that the Japanese were good & should come back. Then she said she & her husband had heard about the Rose bowl and wanted to go there all their lives so they got their chance & started out. Before they knew it they found themselves in Glendale then in Burbank. Soon they turned back & decited to go the next day. They got there & said it was really something to look at. She then went by the coast and saw all the crusers and destroyers. She said she tried to get into terminal island but found every road detoured by the protection of barbwire.

She says that her first trip to Los Angeles was wonderful. But continuing with it. She says that the city is just dark as ever and says its just awful. Also they have set up balloons to protect the City and factorys. It seems that douglas puts out a smoke screen which is just like fog and then the fog protects from the enemy to see. She says that they were getting gasoline at the station when the person who came to help them was a woman. She said the woman was sort of snuty & said may I help you. Her husband felt embarrassed by having a lady come out to help. Boy she said that this lady had overalls with grease all over her hands & face. How'd it would be nice to go home & see what life is like.

How is everyone. Give my regards to all.

Sister,

Masako Nagano

P.S. Try to write more often.
