Dear Joseph,

We got your letter two days ago and were relieved to know that the glasses weren't broken in the mail. We didn't have them registered, so if you received them broken, you couldn't have got any dough from the postal service. I am trying to write at least two times a week to you if possible, but right now I'm so dog-gone busy trying to study for the finnal exams, that its practically impossible. However, this semester will be over this week comming and after that, I'll be able to write you steady. You say that you haven't heard from George Sakata? You should have heard from him a long time ago. He had your January pay-check, and

was going to stop by on the way and give it to you. Mama is kind of worried over it, and I'm going down to the fiscal dept tomorrow and ask them about it. Maybe George Sakata forgot to get the check or forgot to stop by Chicago or something. If you get in touch with the Relocation authority, they can tell you where he is. Nothing new has happened lately except that school kids are studying like dogs for finnal exams. Manzanar is the same cold, dry, windy place as ever although we had some beautiful weather about two weeks ago. Not too hot or cold, slight breezes, just like back home. Nothing new has developed toward registration but everyone is still guessing and the first volunteers are going in

about two weeks. I gave your regards to neighbors especially proud Henry Mikami who spent about $5 on cigars passing them out to everyone. The whole Mikami family has to more or less suffer as we did when we lived with the Saiku's. The baby seems to cry quite a bit. In giving your regards to them, they in turn asked me to give you their regards to you. Besides the Mikamis giving their regards to you were the "all-shots" Mack, Kenny, George, Matsu, Hiroko, Nishis and "J.J. Ikari."

Don't mention in any of your letters that I told you this, but you know, the first week you were gone Mama seemed like she had blood-shot eyes every day. She was feeling pretty lonesome although she's okay now. Kind of gave me a funny feeling when I thought about being drafted into the army.

The two things she is worring about most now is that you'd lose your health taking so many units and that check. So if you hear anything from George, let us know.

It might interest you to know that Unihi is favored to capture W. L.A. league and beat Hamilton in its first league game 32 to 26. Jack Stone (the swimmer) is supposed to be quite a ball player, and along with Benny Lewis will probably end up on the all-league team. U.C.L.A. has a pretty good team too. If they win next weeks two games against troy, they will have captured the championship. Sounds impossible, but "weeji" said yes, so who knows? Well, time forces to me to end now by I'll write again soon.

Your loving brother,

Towru Nagano.

P.S. Keep looking for the soldering iron.
