Dear Joe,

I had a little bit of time to write today so I'll just say a little bit. Mom, Pop, & Tor say hello, including me & all the neighbors. We received your letter yesterday & found it to be most interesting in your short words. We are all glad to hear that you like school. Gee we were all shocked to hear that you were taking so many courses. Especially 18, Mama says to drop at least 2 of the courses which aren't as necessary as the others because shes afraid that it might be bad for your health. We can all picture you going to school every day in your felt hat & coat. We suppose its pretty hard to keep warm without having to move a lots. Its too bad that the darn [illegible] has to always be around. By the way what does it feel like to to civilized again? Say I hope it isn't true that we are going to a prison camp because we will be unable to have privileges of all sorts. Its too bad that you have to pay 20 cents a day for your car or bus fair. We wish you didn't worry much about it. Did George Sakata see you yet? Did you get your pay from him?

We sent your baggage about 2 weeks ago & hope that they got there in good condition. We didn't get you glasses until Monday because the glasses came to the hospital late so we just sent them yesterday. Gee I had a ice cream soda yesterday & it sure was delicious. Miyo, Ayako, & I made it with the ice cream and soda we bought. We just put the ice cream in the cup & poured in the soda on top, & mixed it. Tor had Mr. Wetzal send up his PA (public address) & gee we just got it yesterday morning & even me, I mean myself got excited as it had belonged to me. We played it all day

yesterday & it sure sounded pretty. (I mean the beautiful records.) Last night we tried Weeji & Matsue, Tor, Mayo, & I tried & tried for at least 1 hr. & finally he came & I turned on the lights & and he went away again. So after that we couldn't get him so we asked Gracie Odahara to help us & she got him in about 10 mins. After a while we asked him lots of questions & we asked if you & Tor were going to be in the army & Weeji said no so we all were happy. Weeji said that Kay & Yuki Odahara are supposed to leave today but I guess they aren't. Mr. Weeji said that your going to be together with us in 7 yrs. starting from the next years, & also said that we are going back to W.L.A. after the war. We asked lots of silly questions & it made us laugh like the devil. All the neighbors heard us I bet & I hope this Weeji isn't true. We asked Reverend Nicholson to get our radio from back home & he said he would so we can hardly wait to get it & get all of the good stations & listen to all the programs. Do you buy the paper? Well yesterdays headline was ROSTOV falls to Russia so I guess its going along okay. Do you miss the funnies? Gee its been just like summer weather down here for 3 days in a row & man is it hot. We have gotten sort of used to writing to you with out having lumps in our throats but when we receive a letter it is a joyous day for us. I better close now but before I close I'll tell you a joke that's really corney. It came out of the Santa Monica J.C's paper. Why does a moron sleep on hay? Ans. To feed his dreams. Did you ever hear about the moron that went to the city because his country was at war? Signing off now!

Your sis, always

Masako

P.S. Did you receive your refund from Juniauta ????? We didn't get it anyway.

P.S. Excuse the pencil, paper & writing. Thank you.
