Dear Joe,

Received your letter during the latter part of last week but unable to write you sooner due to an excuse of exams.

Getting down to business right away, I think possibly number 3 is about the best bet, --that is, trying to get an emergency furlough with relocation as the reason. That would work out fine in every way that I can think of. What do you say we set this as a tentative plan and work on it. Have you got in contact with the folks on the matter? As you say, this whole thing is rather speculative but until anything else comes in to disrupt these plans, what do you say we utilize solution number 3 at the present time?

Kenny was unable to get into med. school because of non-residence. He was right in there as far as academic qualifications but the non-residence was too much of a handicap. He's still working pretty hard and just took his physical the other day. It looks like the army is going to get him most any day.

Some guys up here got the idea I'm up here just to play football but changed their minds. I guess I overemphasized myself inquiring about football and as a result, some guys got the idea I came up here to fool around. They

asked me why I wasn't out for spring practice with only 30 guys out? I told them I had 4:30 PM classes and wasn't going to forfeit them just for football. I said I would go out in the fall when my program wouldn't be disrupted. "Oh," they said, "I had you wrong." My chances on football won't be too good with 3 returning guards -- (2 first stringers) and 6 returning backfield men. However, I think I can still obtain my main objective, fun, if I go out.

At the present, I'm playing for a softball team and playing catcher -- mainly, because I'm the only guy that will play the position. That reminds me, I'm playing with the same gang that I played basketball with. We get to the semi-finals but fluked out because we played right after dinner and everybody just about puked all their dinner.

Weather up here has been putrid! We even had snow and rain within the last couple of days. -- Very unpredictable weather! Thermometer has been hitting around 25-40 degrees. I wish it would warm up a bit!

Oh yes, my finals will be over by at least the 15th of June so by our plan, I guess I'll be in Chicago by then.

Guess I've chewed the fat long enough -- I'll rack up and let you read some of your other interesting letters.

So long Bud,

Tor

P.S. Enclosed you find George's letter
