January 30, 1944

Dear Joe and Towru,

Sorry I did not write to you but so many things have happened to keep me to be a very busy gal.

Here are my reasons. I was giving revenge to Towru for not writing so long and then I had been sick for quite a while.

This is what happened to me in the month of January.

We went to the mess to eat breakfast and then we came back. We ate a good New Years breakfast of, porksausage, toast, orange, potatoe, and cocoa. With that we had the original ozooni for the second part of the breakfast.

After eating all of that we came home and then we cleaned the house and did our daily deeds.

Then Sawadasan came and then he mom began to chat as usual.

The mess hall bell rang and then we went to get our lunch and supper. At the men time Sawadasan waited for us to come back. When we got to the mess hall, sure enough, they had the meal all prepared. Boy it was a swell looking meal. One plate there was a big pile of sushi. Then on the other plate there was 1/4 of chicken, yokan, sunomono (rinded daikon with vinegar on top), cinton (lima beans and peas made real sweet), takenoko (bamboo sprouts), kazunoko (fish eggs), gobo, and lots of stuff cooked with shoyu. We brought this all home.

Around eleven I asked mom if we could start cooking it and then she said yes so then I started to get it all ready. It was around 12:00 when pop came home. He brought some more of that stuff from kitchen 4. Then it was around 1:00 when we really started to eat our lunch. Gosh it sure was good. All I kept asking for was more chicken and that's what I got. When we were all done pop and I couldnt hardly move and then we both had to lie on the bed. After awhile my belly fely better.

Around two in the afternoon I went to the rec. to play ping pong. Well, after that I played basket ball and then it was time to eat.

After eating I went to the show and then I saw the picture of Jackie Cooper in "Seventeen" and it sure was a corny picture.

The latest picture that I have seen is Mr. Lucky with cary Grant. It was sure a good picture and it really was enjoyable. There have been other motion pictures such as Pride of the Yankees, Hers to hold and others but I haven't been able to go to the show.

On the second of January we had snow. Then on the fourth we also had some snow. On the fifth I got the flu and I was in bed till the 12th. During that time I had some thing funny happen to me. It was the night that I had fever and mom put on some vics to keep me from getting worse. In the middle of the night I woke up and found that I was stripped bare from the waist. During that time I was thinking where is my shirt and fell back to sleep. Then I woke up and asked mom what had happened to my shirt and then she said she didn't know and to find it. Well I started to look and then I look and it was right by my pillow. When I started to put on the shirt I found that I couldn't put it on because it had two buttons buttoned and I cant understand how it ever came off and it sure is a mystery to me. When I woke up to next morning mom told me that I was saying where is my shirt in my sleep.

On the thirteenth of January I went back to school and then I studied real hard to catch up with the other kids. Then on the 23rd I started to cough so much that I went to bed and then I have been in bed until today. During this time of the second flu, I kept dreaming that I saw all of my friend and neighbors.

During all of that time I had been worrying about school because we are going to have a final examination and I hate to face class. There are going to be a lot of different things this year. These exams are going to be of 1 hour and a half for each period and I sure am afraid of my history class. Everytime that they have important things. it seems that I am absent and then I miss out and then I get bad grades. Shucks, if I flunk this class its just too bad. I had this class any way. Boy its going to start on the third of Feb. Each class will have 1 hour and a half of exams.

What do you think of the 1-1/2 period of exams? We will take two days out for the exams. They will continue from period to period. Gee it sure is going to be plenty hard for me.

Just think, I have only attend school for 8 days out of the whole month. I sure do catch the cold at the wrong time.

It has snowed and whole camp was a beautiful sight. Gosh. This time I couldnt play but they made a big snow man across the street and its as big as the barrack.

Well I will close as there isnt any more to tell you about.
