Mary I: Today is Wednesday, March the 23rd, and I'm doing an interview at the home of Mits Ito on P Street in Toronto, and my name is Mary Ito. So Mits, what was the full name that you were given when you were born?

Mitsu I: My name was Mitsuyoshi Ito.

Mary I: And why were you given that name?

Mitsu I: 'Cause I was a third son.

Mary I: So what, how do you define that name? What does "third" mean?

Mitsu Mary I: Mitsu is "three."

Mary I: And what was the year that you were born?

Mitsu I: 1924, August the 20th.

Mary I: Do you have any siblings, brothers and sisters?

Mitsu Mary I: I have one brother still living, Tsugio, and I had another brother and they all passed away. And then we had one daughter, she passed away one month after she was born.

Mary I: This would be your sister?

Mitsu I: Yes.

Mary I: And where were you born?

Mitsu I: Mission City, B.C.

Mary I: And where is Mission in British Columbia?

Mitsu I: Mission is about thirty miles up the Fraser River on Vancouver.

Mary I: And were all your brothers also born in Mission?

Mitsu I: Yes, we were all born in Mission.
