Caption on reverse [translation]: "US Ambassador to Japan W. Cameron Forbes ended his leave of absence of approximately 6 months, returning to work after entering Yokohama harbor before daybreak on the 5th aboard the Empress of Asia from Vancouver accompanied by Mrs. Forbes and Ms. Kendall [?].

The ambassador said the following aboard the ship: 'Although returning to work sooner than planned, I thought I could do more by coming to Japan given the present circumstances than staying home in America. I don't have permission from the American government to discuss anything else, so can't say more.' He then met a group from the American embassy and headed to Tokyo by car.
