Caption on reverse: "U.S. Commander at Cape Gloucester. Major General William H. Rupertus is the commander of U.S. Marine Corps forces which landed near Cape Gloucester on the northwestern tip of New Britain Island and captured the twin airfields held by the Japanese there. Landings on Arawe, New Britain, and the capture of airfields on Cape Gloucester in New Britain and Saidor on the north coast of neighboring New Guinea gave Allied forces additional bases for the continuing offensive in the Pacific."
