DESCRIPTION
Series of memos regarding the Japanese in Hawaii. Memo 1: from Frank Knox to President Roosevelt. He suggests that proper action against the Japanese in Hawaii is not being taken and urges the President to look into the matter. Memo 2: Henry Stimson to President Roosevelt. Assures the President that the situation is under control -- all hostile people are in custody. Informs him of plans to evacuate and mentions economic concerns. Memo 3: President Roosevelt to Stimson. States that military security should take precedence over the Hawaiian economy. Memo 4: Gen. Emmons to Stimson. Warns that most Japanese to be evacuated are loyal and "have committed no suspicious acts."
