Chimata Sumida worked under his supervision for two and one-half years. His duties included lecturing nightly in Japanese to the Isseis about "news of the world." He said that Chimata Sumida had a "mind of his own," but he has cooperated with the WRA and his community even though he did not always agree with the Community Council or WRA. Mr Griswold wrote that since Mr. Sumida was "youthful in his thinking and interests, he has the confidence of the young people in a greater degree than most older people here."
