Caption below image reads, "NO VACATION--Hotoru Matsudaira, right, a feisty 79-year-old grandmother, told a federal commission Thursday that the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II was anything but a 'three-year vacation,' as described by Sen. S.I. Hayakawa, R-Calif. 'He is a Canadian and he lived in the East all during the war. He is not one of us,' Mrs. Matsudaira told the commission through and interpreter, Mako Nakagawa, center. 'His face is Japanese but that is all.' Ms. Nakagawa's father, Masao Takahashi, left, also testified at the second of three hearings before the commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians.
