U.S. Counterintelligence Corps

The first all-Nisei Counterintelligence Corps (CIC) unit began training at Camp Ritchie, Maryland, in the spring of 1945 to prepare for the occupation of Japan. The mission of the Nisei in CIC was to use their linguistic and cultural knowledge to detect and prevent activities directed against Occupation Forces. Nisei CIC personnel were assigned to every prefecture in Japan and relied on a network of police, local government officials and media to carry out their intelligence work. They were also involved with recruiting informants within nationalist and ultra-leftist organizations.
