After leaving camp, moved to Auburn, Washington, where father's family had a pottery business and mother was a dressmaker. Teresa grew up in Auburn and graduated from the University of Washington. Served in the Peace Corps before moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and working as a teacher at the Germantown Friends School. Involved with numerous community groups such as the Japanese American Citizens League and Shofuso Japanese and Garden."
