"description": "Photocopy of a typed letter from Teru Koyama to Edward J. Ennis concerning the rehearing of Keizaburo Koyama's case. On the first page, Teru writes that she has become discouraged in her efforts to get her husband's case reheard. On the suggestion of her counselor, she is providing a detailed account of her husband's activities. She outlines her efforts, as well as those of her daughters and Mrs. A.C. Goodenough, on petitioning the U.S. Attorney for a rehearing. She mentions that each person received a letter acknowledging their petition. She adds that her husband also petitioned for his rehearing and that his case is to be held at Santa Fe, but is currently postponed. This update was disappointing, but not unexpected and is what prompted her to write this letter.",

The document speaks on Koyama's hearing at Fort Missoula, Montana and being found to be an enemy alien. The decision was based largely on Koyama having a subscription to the magazine put out by the Sokoku Kai. The panel felt that his association with the Hiro Fuji, organizer of the chapter, gave a sense of \"loyalty and subservience to the Imperial Government of Japan.\"",

On this page, Mrs. Goodenough writes about Dr. Koyama's reputation, stating that it is \"above reproach.\" She contacted several schools and individuals that had dealings with Dr. Koyama and all \"expressed their confidence in him.\" As to his loyalty to the United States. Mrs. Goodenough talked about Dr. Koyama's decision to raise his children as American citizens with no intentions of taking them to Japan. She adds that Dr. Koyama has on several occasions stated that he would never take up arms against the United States. She feels that with Mrs. Koyama's health and the American way the Koyamas have raised their children is sufficient enough reason to reunite the family with Dr. Koyama.",

Everson, President of Linnfield College in McMinneville, Oregon and Chairman of the Alien Enemy Hearing Board by Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Goodenough. This is the second page of a four-letter. The letter continues, stating that early on in their relationship with the Koyamas, Mrs. Koyama confessed to a mistake they had made in the past. The Koyamas wanted to make sure that their friendship with the Goodenoughs was a loyal and honest one. The Goodenoughs do not elaborate on the nature of the mistake, stating it was \"not to [sic] serious, certainly not un-American.\" Mrs. Goodenough notes that the Koyamas lived with them for a year and wholly earned their trust and love and came to see the Koyamas as family. Further on, Mrs. Goodenough adds that her husband has been unwell for the last five years and during that time, the Koyamas never once betrayed their trust or took advantage of them. Mrs. Goodenough feels that Dr. Koyama did nothing to warrant being picked up and that any association he may be part of would not garner government interest if it had been peacetime. She feels that Dr. Koyama is a loyal American and would never harm either the United States or her and her husband.",
