She considers the Koyamas like family. Earlier in 1943, she and several other friends of the Koyamas submitted affidavits on behalf of Dr. Koyama, but to date, Teru Koyama has not had any updates on his status. Mrs. A.C. Goodenough points out that United States Attorney Carl C. Donaugh stated that there are no charges against Dr. Koyama and she does not think it right that Dr. Koyama has been separated for so long from his family.",

"description": "Photocopy of a typed letter from Teru Koyama to Edward J. Ennis concerning the rehearing of Keizaburo Koyama's case. Mrs. Koyama details the efforts she and others have made on behalf of her husband. While her husband was incarcerated at Camp Livingston, Louisiana, Mrs. Koyama submitted numerous documents pertaining to her husband's educational history in the United States. She then found out that the Immigration and Naturalization Bureau did not have these documents and Mrs. Koyama had to turn back to Mrs. A.C. Goodenough to gather them up again. Mrs. Koyama heard from her husband that the Immigration and Naturalization Bureau was able to confirm his status as a legal resident due to a law from 1924. He was also able to track down the whereabouts of the stowaway. His name was Seizaburo Koyama and had returned to Japan several years prior. This was confirmed by the stowaway's brother who happened to be at the same camp as Keizaburo Koyama. After being transferred to Santa Fe, New Mexico, authorities urged Mr. Koyama to fully detail his story, which he did. At this point, Mrs. Koyama asks pointedly why the FBI did not investigate her husband's status at any time prior to the 1942 raids.",

Written in red pencil along the top of the envelope is “9/8-43.” On the left side of the envelope is a cartoon drawing of a yellow train with the words “United Nations” in blue on the side the train and a word bubble below that reads “Clear the Tracks!” The train is traveling towards three caricatures of the Axis Powers who are running away. On the back of the envelope is the return sender information to Eva Koyama at Minidoka. The letter is dated August 29, 1943, and has the same drawing as the envelope. On the upper left is an \"EXAMINED\" stamp. Eva writes her father about her events at camp which include: school starting, bonfires, and a recent drowning. She mailed a picture with the letter, see ddr-one-5-68 (ONLC 3456).",

Inside is a letter from Kei's wife, Teru dated July, 20 1942. Some phrases are underlined in red. Teru writes to him about the children (Miriam Kiyo, William, and Eva) and scolds him for not telling her more about the kind of shirts he can and cannot wear at Camp Livingston. She mentions writing this letter outside with other Japanese wives while watching the children play. She writes about liking the warm weather and alludes to the nice people who offer to help her, and the people who refuse to pay their dental bills.",

Along the left edge of the envelope is clear tape that has browned with the number \"483.\" On the back of the envelope the tape continues with the words “Examined by.” A purple \"Received\" stamp is also on the back dated Mar 19, 1943. Inside the envelope is a letter from Teru to her husband, Keizaburo \"Kei\" Koyama dated March 8, 1943. She apologizes for not writing the last 10 days as she had been busy writing their friends in Portland about Kei's retrial. She talks about people leaving the camp for work out east and wishes they could do the same. She talks about the many men who volunteered for the Army from Minidoka and speculates their son William would have joined if he had been old enough.",

"description": "Yellowed envelope addressed to Dr. Kei Koyama at Fort Missula with two postmarks from Portland; dated February 6, 1942. Handwritten is “Air Mail/SPECIAL DEL.” on the left side of the envelope; in red pencil “Feb 13” is written below. There are two purple stamps in the lower left corner: one is a \"Fee\" stamp from the post office, and the second is an \"EXAMINED\" stamp from Fort Missoula. A third postmark from Missoula dated February 7, 1942, is stamped on the back of the envelope. Inside the envelope is a handwritten note with information about where to obtain passport and marriage license information and a handwritten letter from Kei's wife, Teru , dated February 5, 1942. The letter is written in seven numbered points. It tells of developments in Portland preventing Japanese from obtaining licenses. Teru advising Kei not to trust other Japanese and to trust God. Teru advises that if Kei's trial goes well and he is released he can tend to the business, but if not she will need to obtain a license to look after it. At the bottom of the letter is a purple \"EXAMINED\" stamp.",

In the upper right corner “Internee of War/Free Mail” is written in place of a stamp. The numbers “10-8-43” are written along the top of the envelope in red pencil. Inside is a letter dated Oct 2, 1943, from Teru Koyama. At the bottom of the letter is an \"EXAMINED\" stamp with the numbers \"25-3.\" In the letter she reminds Kei of the difficulty that she had depositing his check, that she will get her July paycheck sometime this month, and that she gave their son, William, some money. She talks about their daughters' excitement at William leaving. She describes the canteen's fruit selection and the issues she has when she eats certain fruits. She reminds Kei his birthday is coming up and that she and the children will be mailing him a card.",
