At the top of the letter is an \"EXAMINED\" stamp signed in red ink. In the letter Teru inquires if Kei had his hearing yet, and hopes it will happen before the California hearing board leaves. She writes about a new missionary working in the camp and about attending the English services with the children instead of attending the Japanese services. She tells Kei that she cannot help the Azuma family, and advises that they seek out the WRE legal office. She does not want to create any additional problems for the family by becoming involved in anything outside of church. She writes about a farewell party she is about at attend for those headed to Tule Lake and worries that their children will not sit with her. In the postscript she writes about the party, since it was for the Kibeis it was primarily in Japanese. She discusses her feelings towards Kibeis and the differences between Issei, Kibei, and Nisei.",

Postmarked May 25, 1942. On the left side of the envelope, written in pencil, is “Censored 5/31/42” with initials below. Inside the envelope is a letter dated May 24, 1942. In the letter, Teru discusses attending church at the Portland Assembly Center and the religious fervor in the aftermath of war. She talks about visiting the Satos and how the Koyama children enjoyed food from the Satos. She tells Kei about the Satos' children and that she will be writing them, as they are away from camp. She also shares that Rev. Mitchel has Kei's golf clubs and he wants to play a match when he returns to Portland.",

In red pencil “7/16-42” is written just below the postmark. On the left side of the envelope is a purple \"CENSORED\" stamp with unknown initials below the stamp in blue ink. Inside are two letters to Keizaburo \"Kei\" Koyama, one from his daughter, Eva Koyama, and his wife, Teru Koyama, both dated July 10, 1942. Eva writes to tell her father that her sister Miriam Kiyo's birthday is coming up and they are surprising her with a gift. She asks in a postscript for him to write soon. The letter from Teru is oversized and is not currently available online. She writes in her letter about missing him, church hymns, and wishing Miriam Kiyo could practice the piano more. She tells him that William received his card and that Eva wished she got more. Advises Kei to write Eva a letter telling her he loves her too. Apologizes for the wrong kind of shirts and will try and get different ones sent. Teru expressing longing for turkey like Kei had, and tells him about the food they had at the holidays. Is happy to hear that he has been able to attend some masses and hopes he can go to more. Advises that she has tried to send the “Minidoka Evacuzette” to him.",

She describes their room. She writes about her feelings on the war, her faith, and the church in Minidoka. She asks about being brought together while he waits for his trial and describes how the family needs him close by.",

Inside the envelope are two letters, one from Miriam Kiyo Koyama dated September 12, 1942, and one from Teru Koyama dated Sept 14, 1942. Kiyo writes about how her sister, Eva, was upset at having been called fat in his last letter, and that Eva's lost weight since coming to Minidoka, in part because the walk to the canteen is far. She also writes that she's seen a dead snake outside the barracks, and that her mom now works in the camp kitchens. On the back side of the letter is part of the poem “For I'm Grown Up” by Sydell Merl. Teru writes to Kei about the hardship of raising children in camp since there is little family structure and her worries about their education. She writes of meeting the Kakekashis again in camp and that William is befriending Hiro Kakekashi. She wishes Kei could be here, but is certain he would not like Minidoka, and that there are too many dentists anyway, and that they even sent some Portlanders to Wyoming because they had a full medical team at Minidoka.",

She describes how she is enjoying studying the Bible, English, History, and Civics, and she advises Kei to do the same because she does not want him to lose the ability to communicate with their children since they primarily speak English. Advises she might not write for a while as she has to pack for the family's move.",

She speaks briefly on how difficult the Great Depression was for the family due to being a new dentist, her illness and the operation for their youngest daughter, and how business was slow due to there being three other Japanese dentists. In December of 1940, the widow of one of those dentists approached the Koyamas about buying her deceased husband's practice. The Koyamas felt it was too expensive, but since the location was in a better neighborhood and closer to the Caucasian families, they decided to buy the practice at the asking price. Business soon picked up and Dr. Koyama decided to drop his membership to the Japanese Association as a result.",

He also approached Mrs. Hirata, the widow of the deceased dentist, about buying her husband's office and she refused. On his wife's advice. Dr. Koyama leased the new office to himself for two years. While Dr. Koyama was interned, Mrs. Koyama continued to pay for the office rent, but was unable to pay for December 1942. Dr. Shiomi then stepped in and made the payment himself. He was hesitant to explain why, but told Mrs. Koyama over the phone that he had the lease to the entire floor now so it was on him to keep up with the payments. He did not explain why Mrs. Hirata did not sell to him, but added that once Dr. Koyama was out, he could move into a different room as he had laid claim to Dr. Koyama's room.",

While she was worried about war between the United States and Japan, her husband said they would support the country of their children's birth - the United States. Mrs. Koyama starts talking about the difficulties of being separated from her husband for two years. She said the first few months were rough, but she received a lot of support from friends and neighbors, though she was always worried about being attacked by someone who didn't know her, but only saw her as an enemy. She writes that there was a sense of relief once the bars of the Portland Assembly Center were closed behind her. While life is difficult, she is learning to do more with less.",
