"description": "16-page pamphlet authored by the War Relocation announcing the segregation of \"disloyal\" Japanese Americans at Tule Lake and the displacement of \"loyal\" Tule Lake residents to other camps, based on responses to Question 28 of the loyalty questionnaire. Pamphlet explains who will be segregated based on their answers; which people will receive a hearing prior to final decision on their status; who will be transferred away from Tule Lake, and process for being transferred; and explanation of why Tule Lake was chosen as the segregation center. Also announces two policy changes in the management of Tule Lake, in which residents will no longer be eligible for leave, and community self-governance will no longer apply. "title": "Weekly Press Review No. 31",
"description": "Original summary excerpt: Segregation continued to hold top honors as a source of news this week. Reports on the appointment of Raymond R. Best as Tule Lake director stressed his previous experince at Minidoka, Moab and Leupp, and quoted denial of field administrator, Robert Cozzens, that changes were a \"shakeup\". Reports of a proposed enlargement of the Tule Lake center to hold 19,000 segregees, plus a battalion of military guards caused fear in Klamath County that building project would upset local labor picture at critical time of year.",

"title": "Memo from Co-ordinating Committee to Chief of Police Schmidt [Willard E. Schmidt], February 3, 1944",
"description": "Calls for special meeting of the Project Director, Advisory Council, and Co-ordinating Committee to discuss Committee recommendations, and refers to four attached memoranda, each from Co-ordinating Committee 1608-A to R. [Raymond] R. Best, Project Director, dated February 2, 1944 and written by Byron Akitsuki, Executive Secretary. Subjects of the memoranda are: Receipt of Red Cross Gift [of soy sauce]; Nomination of Temporary Police Commissioners; Creation of New Employment Opportunities; and Preparation for Referendum Votes prior to the Replacement of this Committee. The latter memo states that a referendum, which would give incarcerees a voice in the Center's management, would help to overcome negative feelings.
