Removed with family to the Tanforan Assembly Center, California, and the Topaz concentration camp, Utah. While in camp, father volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Mother answered an ad in the camp newspaper and moved with Jean to a ranch owned by the Duvenicks, a family known for their social justice activism. Eventually returned to the Oakland, California, area."
