Transferred briefly to the Amache concentration camp, Colorado, before leaving camp with the help of a Quaker group to work as a houseboy in Des Moines, Iowa, while attending high school. Volunteered for the Military Intelligence Service, and served in Japan during the U.S. occupation.",
