Inside is a letter from Kei's wife, Teru dated July, 20 1942. Some phrases are underlined in red. Teru writes to him about the children (Miriam Kiyo, William, and Eva) and scolds him for not telling her more about the kind of shirts he can and cannot wear at Camp Livingston. She mentions writing this letter outside with other Japanese wives while watching the children play. She writes about liking the warm weather and alludes to the nice people who offer to help her, and the people who refuse to pay their dental bills.",

Eva writes to tell her father that her sister Miriam Kiyo's birthday is coming up and they are surprising her with a gift. She asks in a postscript for him to write soon. The letter from Teru is oversized and is not currently available online. She writes in her letter about missing him, church hymns, and wishing Miriam Kiyo could practice the piano more. She tells him that William received his card and that Eva wished she got more. Advises Kei to write Eva a letter telling her he loves her too. Apologizes for the wrong kind of shirts and will try and get different ones sent. Teru expressing longing for turkey like Kei had, and tells him about the food they had at the holidays. Mrs. Koyama then goes on about her faith and that of her husband's. In both of their cases, they say that their incarceration has helped them to become better Christians. She also talks about her declining health and how much she fears passing away while her husband is still interned elsewhere. While she is now able to work a little bit to bring in money for the family, she's had to spend months recovering. She and her kids were twice offered a chance to go to Japan, but refused, finding the offer insulting. Mrs. Koyama fears that the kids are losing morale, though her son keeps busy with Boy Scouts and her daughters with the church involvement.",

"description": "Photocopy of a typed letter from Teru Koyama to Edward J. Ennis concerning the rehearing of Keizaburo Koyama's case. Mrs. Koyama notes that it is very unusual for Issei parents to raise their kids in an American-style environment, but she doesn't regret the decision to do so. While she was worried about war between the United States and Japan, her husband said they would support the country of their children's birth - the United States. Mrs. Koyama starts talking about the difficulties of being separated from her husband for two years. She said the first few months were rough, but she received a lot of support from friends and neighbors, though she was always worried about being attacked by someone who didn't know her, but only saw her as an enemy. She writes that there was a sense of relief once the bars of the Portland Assembly Center were closed behind her. While life is difficult, she is learning to do more with less.",
