A formal welcoming ceremony and banquet for Helen Keller, the 'Disabled Holy Virgin,' sponsored by the welcoming committee on behalf of our government and people, was held from 5 p.m. on the 18th at the Tokyo Kaikan. 460 esteemed guests were in attendance, including Duke Iesato Tokugawa, head of the committee, Marquess Toshitake Okubo, head of the executive committee, Prime Minister Hayashi, Home Minister Kawarada, Foreign Minister Sato, Tokyo Governor Tachi, Mayor Ushizuka, US Ambassador Grew and Tanahashi Ayako, filling the third floor's main hall. The ceremony opened with the performance of the American and Japanese national anthems at 5:25, which was followed by various speeches. Ms. Keller was presented by Duke Tokugawa with a ceramic incense burner made by Itaya Hazan and a haori. Duke Tokugawa also gave a haori to Ms. Thomson and received their passionate thanks.
