His diary begins with his first day at Minidoka and the challenges of establishing a school system. Kleinkopf discusses social tension between Japanese American incarcerees and WRA staff, racist ideologies held by staff and community members, varying concepts of patriotism and American identity, how people retained cultural practices, and the logistical and emotional issues with running a school system for incarcerated children during a war. Arthur’s wife Edith later retyped his diary; this typewritten copy is today cared for by the Twin Falls Public Library in the Idaho Room archives.","extent":"8.5W x 11H; 610 pages","links_children":"ddr-fom-2-1","creators":[{"role":"author","namepart":"Kleinkopf, Arthur"}],"topics":[{"term":"World War II -- Concentration camps","id":"65"},{"term":"World War II -- Concentration camps -- Education","id":"73"},{"term":"World War II -- Concentration camps -- Impact of incarceration","id":"78"},{"term":"World War II -- Concentration camps -- Social relations","id":"536"}],"format":"doc","language":["eng"],"persons":[{"namepart":"Kleinkopf, Arthur"}],"contributor":"Friends of Minidoka","rights":"cc","genre":"diary","location":"Hunt, Idaho","facility":[{"term":"Minidoka","id":"8"}],"creation":"September 26, 1942 - February 9, 1946","status":"completed","search_hidden":"Kleinkopf, Arthur author Kleinkopf, Arthur","download_large":"ddr-fom-2-1-mezzanine-6d0b349d20-a.jpg"}],"query":{"query":{"wildcard":{"id":"ddr-fom-2-*"}},"sort":["repo","org","cid","eid",{"role":{"order":"desc"}},"sort","sha1","id"],"_source":["id","model","links_html","links_json","links_img","links_thumb","links_children","status","public","title","description","contributor","creators","creators.namepart","facility","format","genre","geography","label","language","creation","location","persons","rights","topics","image_url","display_name","bio","extent","search_hidden"]},"aggregations":{}}
