He graduated from Chiba Medical College and served in the imperial Japanese army from 1919-1920.  In 1921 Dr. Rikita Honda immigrated to the United States and opened his own medical office in Oakland.  He also served as a Director at the Fresno Japanese Hospital in 1924.  Between 1925 and 1928 Dr. Honda conducted medical research at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Colorado.  Based on this research he was conferred a Doctorate of Medicine from Tokyo Imperial University in 1931.  Dr. Honda had a practice in the heart of Los Angeles' Little Tokyo until 1941.  On January 25, 1926 Dr. Honda married Mae Tatsuyo Kitano, a nisei, in Denver, Colorado.  The couple had four children during their marriage. Dr. Honda was a leading member of the Nanka Tiekoku Gun'yu Don (the Southern California Imperial Army Veterans of War), an Issei Veterans group that gathered donations to support the Imperial Japanese Army during the Sino-Japanese War. On December 7, 1941 Dr. Honda was arrested by the FBI and detained at the INS detention center on Terminal Island in part because of his membership in the Nanka Tiekoku Gun'yu Don.  On December 14, 1941 Dr. Honda took his own life while still in federal custody.
