The barrack in the scene is number 115. There were five rooms to a barrack. Five families. Separating each room were plywood walls, built half-way to the ceiling. One had to talk in a whispter to prevent the neighbors from listening in. After awhile, no one cared any longer. You knew everything about your neighbor and he knew all there was to know about you.\"",

These that were assigned to live in these green stables promptly tacked up signs above their doors such as 'Come Inn,' 'Hated St. Francis,' 'The Mark,' etc. The building in the foreground is a latrine building. The children would have climbed the trees but were afraid of getting shot at by the guards close by. One could easily have followed a great limb out over and beyond the fence.\"",

During our stay, peculiar odors persisted, reminding us of horse manure. We lived in the end apartment. The balcony came in very handy as we had an excellent view. All day long evacuees would be scurrying back and forth whenever water was needed, we walked down the porch to the pipe. Victory gardens were planted and the greenery was a pleasant sight to look down upon. The two structures are the latrines. AT first we put up our own clothes line, and later ours were torn down and Tanforan poles were set up. On rainy days the ramp leading up to the porch was precarious and one had to hang on to the rails for safety.\"",
