Japanese Americans were not allowed to take family pets with them to camp and, if they were lucky, left the animals with friends or neighbors. King was very devoted to the Mojis, as this photo indicates. Apparently, the husky bared his fangs at soldiers who tried to remove him from the truck, and Mrs. Moji had to coax the reluctant dog back into the house. Although the Mojis were able to find a neighbor who was willing to care for King, he refused to eat and starved to death. (Gerald Elfendahl, Bainbridge Island Historical Society.)",
