Caption on reverse [translation]: "Akita Given to Ms. Keller Travels to America. (Tokyo) June 2, 1939. The Akita Kenzan-go (male, 3 years old), a messenger of US-Japanese goodwill being sent to Helen Keller, the saint of three burdens, was accompanied by his former owner Ichiro Ogasawara, a kendo instructor for the Akita Police, to Wharf B at 10:30 a.m. on the 2nd, where the international steamship Kirishima Maru was docked. He was seen off by Mr. Ogasawara and departed for New York at noon. Photograph: Kenzan-go."
