Caption on reverse [translation]: "Memorial Service for Marshall Joffre. The state funeral for French Marshal Joffre, who passed away on the 3rd, was held in an impressive fashion in France on the 7th. The French citizens residing in Tokyo also assembled at the Sekiguchi Catholic Church in Koishikawa from 10 a.m. on the 7th for a grand memorial service under French Ambassador de Martel and Archbishop Moynahan [?]　with a representative of Prime Minister Shidehara and diplomats from the various countries' legations in Tokyo [illegible] the far off brave general's spirit. Photograph: the grand memorial service for Marshall Joffre (at the Catholic Church)."
