Stilwell (left), Commander in Chief of U.S. forces in China, Burma, and India, is shown with Brigadier General Frank Merrill, commander of American troops now fighting the Japanese in Northern Burma. Gen. Merrill's soldiers, popularly known as 'Merrill's Marauders,' were the first U.S. ground troops to go into action on the North Burma front."
