Caption written by Kenneth Iyeki: "This structure in Tanforan served many purposes. It is adjacent to the huge grandstand and tangent by a stairway. Upstairs in the hall, the internees held dances, badminton, and it was used as a place where visitors could come and see their evacuated friends. The ground level which is under the tree was used to issue canteen tickets. On such days, the ground in front of the social hall would be packed with people waiting patiently for their canteen tickets. At first, visitors were allowed to go out on the [?], but later restrictions became more strict."
