Article: "Survivors Of the 'Lost Battalion.' A Kraut, wounded in an attempt to wipe out the 1st Battalion of the 36th Division's 141st Regiment, is carried away by Yank medics. Some of the 'Lost Battalion' survivors below are shown being transported to the rear. The doughfeet held off the Nazis for five days in the Vosges Mountains until Japanese Americans of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team broke through to them."
