Yuriko Tsukada (nee Domoto) received letters from her husband Richard “Dick” Hiroshi Tsukada when they were dating in 1943 and 1944 when he left Granada (Amache) to find work. Additionally, Richard and Yuri lived apart in 1946 when he moved to New Rochelle, New York and Yuri attended Simmon's College in Boston. Additionally, Yuriko Tsukada (nee Domoto) received letters and artwork from longtime friend, artist Mine Okubo between 1948-1994 and kept several programs from art shows of Mine Okubo's work. To learn more about Mine Okubo see http://encyclopedia.densho.org/Mine_Okubo/ and to see more of her work visit Riverside Community College http://library.rcc.edu/riverside/okubo/ and the Japanese American National Musuem http://www.janm.org/collections/mine-okubo-collection which both hold physical collections of Mine Okubo's work. She also kept meeting minutes from the Committee of Immigrant Serving Agencies from December 1941 to February 1942 and case notes from Japanese Americans seeking assistance following the bombing of Pearl Harbor.\r\nThe Administrative Records are from Yuriko Tsukada's (nee Domoto) time as a Social Worker at Granada (Amache) and at Merced Assembly Center. These records include: internal memos regarding office work, blank forms, social welfare worker’s studies, resettlement efforts, family reunification polices, and the transfer of individuals from Tule Lake to Amache.","links_children":"ddr-densho-356","creators":[{"role":"author","namepart":"Tsukada, Yuriko (Domoto)"},{"role":"author","namepart":"War Relocation Authority"}],"language":["eng","jpn"],"contributor":"Densho","public":"1","rights":"cc","status":"completed","search_hidden":"Tsukada, Yuriko (Domoto) author \nWar Relocation Authority author","download_large":"ddr-densho-356-1-mezzanine-1e6b17312e-a.jpg"},{"id":"ddr-densho-37-770","model":"entity","index":"21 621/{'value': 683, 'relation': 'eq'}","links":{"html":"https://ddr.densho.org/ddr-densho-37-770/","json":"https://ddr.densho.org/api/0.2/ddr-densho-37-770/","img":"https://ddr.densho.org/media/ddr-densho-37/ddr-densho-37-770-mezzanine-ffef82fa53-a.jpg","thumb":"http://ddrmedia.local/media/ddr-densho-37/ddr-densho-37-770-mezzanine-ffef82fa53-a.jpg"},"title":"Japanese Americans leaving camp","description":"Original WRA caption: Granada Relocation Center, Amache, Colorado. Not all the center residents will return to their former homes. Many have found permanent \"relocation\" in the sandy soil on which the tar paper barracks were hurriedly erected. A total of nearly 15,000 evacuees were inducted into the Granada Project, Amache, Colorado, since August 27, 1942, when the first group arrived from the Merced Assembly Center to prepare the camp for those to follow. The Relocation Center, as its name implies, was a temporary residence for those of Japanese ancestry who were transferred from their homes along the west coast under a war emergency measure of 1942. Many of the evacuees during the past three years were able to resettle and find new homes in the Middle West and eastern states.
