Most serious charges concerned mess operations. WRA was accused of hoarding canned goods prior to rationing, of being wasteful and extravagant in ordering and using food supplies, and it was implied by omission that center residents are not under food rationing restrictions. Further allegations concerned consumption of bootleg liquor by evacuees and their refusal to accept lucrative outside job offers because life within the center is \"soft.\" The Denver Post series was picked up by AP and INS, whose dispatches were printed by relatively few papers.
