Along with other Japanese Americans in the same situation, the group later came to be known as the \"Fort McClellan Disciplinary Barrack Boys,\" or \"DB Boys.\" Sentenced to five years' imprisonment, and served at Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. In the 1980s, a legal team headed by Mr. Nomiyama's son-in-law mounted a legal effort to clear the DB Boys' names. They succeeded in having the army grant honorable discharges, but were unable to get the court martials ultimately overturned.<p>(Participating in this interview is Mr. Paul Minerich, who is Mr. Nomiyama's son-in-law. Stories of the Monday, Nov. 1 disturbance became front page news as did succeeding reports of Army control of the center, after violence flared up briefly on the evening of Nov. 4 (Thursday). Headline banners of the Tule Lake situation replaced war news in many West Coast papers and even in several Mid-West and Eastern editions. All reports were uniformly conspicuous in their misuse of the term \"internee\" for evacuee or segregant. Most of them, however, brought out the point that Tule Lake is a center for \"disloyal Japanese\".","extent":"2372W x 3132H (pixels)","links_children":"ddr-densho-156-355","topics":[{"term":"World War II -- Concentration camps -- Facilities, services, and camp administration","id":"69"}],"format":"doc","language":["eng"],"contributor":"Densho","rights":"cc","genre":"misc_document","creation":"November 10, 1943","status":"completed","search_hidden":"","download_large":"ddr-densho-156-355-mezzanine-3c9a25e39e-a.jpg"},{"id":"ddr-densho-156-209","model":"entity","index":"24 1999/{'value': 2141, 'relation': 'eq'}","links":{"html":"https://ddr.densho.org/ddr-densho-156-209/","json":"https://ddr.densho.org/api/0.2/ddr-densho-156-209/","img":"https://ddr.densho.org/media/ddr-densho-156/ddr-densho-156-209-mezzanine-9470f39ca4-a.jpg","thumb":"http://ddrmedia.local/media/ddr-densho-156/ddr-densho-156-209-mezzanine-9470f39ca4-a.jpg"},"title":"Daily Press Review, Vol. III, No. 8","description":"Article titles: \"Agriculturists of Tulelake Area Study Farm Problem\"; \"Use of Japanese Labor Discussed\"; \"Court Aids Japanese\"; \"Army Eases Alien Bans in California\"; \"No Holidays for Construction Workmen at Eden Relocation Project\"; Proposed Japanese Relocation Projects at Eaton, Silver City\"; \"Japs Patriotic\"; \"Adkison Urges Alien Labor\"; \"Herb Caen Item\"; \"Plan Urges the Importation of Chinese to Meet the Crop Crisis\"; \"Olson Sends Plea to Wickard for Mexican Laborers\"; \"Filipino's Jap Wife Faces Court\"; \"S.F.
