    "title": "Jimmie Omura Interview",
    "description": "Nisei male. Born November 27, 1912, on Bainbridge Island, Washington. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, moved to Denver and took a job as English Editor of a Japanese American vernacular newspaper, the Rocky Shimpo. As editor, wrote about and supported the Fair Play Committee in Heart Mountain concentration camp. Was charged and tried for conspiracy to counsel draft evasion, and was acquitted on the grounds of the First Amendment and freedom of the press. Mr. Omura was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Asian American Journalists Association, and passed away in 1994.

(This interview was conducted by sisters Emiko and Chizuko Omori for their 1999 documentary, Rabbit in the Moon, about the Japanese American resisters of conscience in the World War II incarceration camps. As a result, the interviews in this collection are typically not life histories, instead primarily focusing on issues surrounding the resistance movement itself.)", "breadcrumbs": [ { "label": "1002", "url": "http://ddr.densho.org/ddr-densho-1002/", "idpart": "cid", "api_url": "http://ddr.densho.org/api/0.2/ddr-densho-1002/", "model": "collection", "id": "ddr-densho-1002" }, { "label": "11", "url": "http://ddr.densho.org/ddr-densho-1002-11/", "idpart": "eid", "api_url": "http://ddr.densho.org/api/0.2/ddr-densho-1002-11/", "model": "entity", "id": "ddr-densho-1002-11" } ], "extent": "02:29:25", "credit": "Courtesy of Emiko and Chizuko Omori", "format": "vh", "digitize_date": "2005-05-30 00:00:00.0", "_fields": [ "id", "record_created", "record_lastmod", "status", "public", "sort", "title", "description", "creation", "location", "creators", "language", "genre", "format", "extent", "contributor", "alternate_id", "digitize_person", "digitize_organization", "digitize_date", "credit", "rights", "rights_statement", "topics", "persons", "facility", "chronology", "geography", "parent", "signature_id" ], "record_lastmod": "2018-07-16T11:47:53", "location": "San Francisco, California", "genre": "interview", "status": "completed", "language": [ "eng" ], "digitize_person": "Dana Hoshide", "digitize_organization": "Densho", "rights": "cc", "creators": [ { "namepart": "James Omura", "role": "narrator", "id": "144" }, { "namepart": "Chizu Omori", "role": "interviewer" }, { "namepart": "Emiko Omori", "role": "interviewer" }, { "namepart": "Emiko Omori and Witt Mons", "role": "videographer" } ], "contributor": "Emiko and Chizuko Omori Collection", "alternate_id": "[denshouid: denshovh-ojimmie-01]", "creation": "March 21, 1994", "role": "", "narrator_id": "144", "record_created": "2016-11-01T12:24:20" }
